National shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, the world number one men's singles player and the top seed, lost to Super Dan in 22-20, 14-21 and 21-23 in an epic final that lasted an hour and 22 minutes at Wembley Indoor Arena in London. Chong Wei came within a whisker of lifting the world title for the first time but his arch nemesis Lin Dan stood in the way! =/
The rubber set was a thiller all the way for both players fighting neck-to-neck, toe-to-toe. Chong Wei had held the upper hand at 20-18 in the decider but luck deserted him at the crucial state! And to add to his agonising defeat, Chong Wei, who put up a sombre face during the victory ceremony, rushed out with cramps on both his legs and was lying in a corner with tears in his eyes.
Ahhh~ such a heart aching scene to watch =( The title meant so much to him as the World Championship trophy and the Olympics gold medal are the only silverware that he has yet to win on the world stage! The World Championship will not be contested next year and Chong Wei will be 31 already by 2012! Sigh, maybe he's just not destined to win a major title.
